Jeanne Cunicelli, a veteran venture capitalist in the life sciences industry, was named president of UPMC Enterprises in January 2021. As head of the health system’s innovation, venture capital and commercialization division, she leads UPMC’s efforts to develop innovative solutions to some of health care’s most pressing problems. With a focus on translational sciences and digital solutions, UPMC Enterprises provides its portfolio companies and partners with the capital, connections and insights needed to develop successful businesses.
Cunicelli was a managing director at Bay City Capital in San Francisco before joining UPMC in 2017 to lead and develop UPMC Enterprises’ translational sciences group. This team of scientific and investment professionals works to accelerate the transfer of research discoveries at the University of Pittsburgh, as well as other partners worldwide, into life-changing medicines, diagnostics and devices.
Through its digital solutions group, UPMC Enterprises has started and invested in a broad portfolio of companies that leverages UPMC’s scale and expertise to provide clinicians, payers and consumers with engaging technology that improves the quality and cost-effectiveness of health care.
Cunicelli is a member of the Board of Trustees of Carnegie Mellon University. She received an M.B.A. from the University of San Francisco and a bachelor’s degree in cognitive psychology from Carnegie Mellon University.
