Expert speaker sessions, historic announcements, and industry insights: Enterprises attends ViVE 2024

ViVE is an annual digital health conference that welcomes thousands of health care leaders to build industry relationships and learn from the best and brightest in health care today. The conference merges the digital marketplace platform of HLTH with leadership of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) to create a unique conference event bringing together executives, clinical leaders, investors, policymakers, and patients in the digital health community.

The 2024 conference was held in Los Angeles, California, from Sunday, Feb. 25, through Wednesday, Feb. 28. Seven Enterprises employees attended the event to network with other industry leaders, support portfolio companies, seek out new investments, and learn from insightful speaker sessions. Our team was comprised of Mary Beth Navarra-Sirio, Dan Tarpey, and Kathryn Heffernan from Digital Solutions; Andrew Adrian-Karlin and Deepan Kamaraj from Technology Services; Lilly Madrid from Marketing; and Allison Hydzik from Media Relations.

All of the Enterprises attendees found value in attending the conference, hoping to advance our mission and make lasting connections with other digital health leaders.

“I was excited to attend because I was confident that the marketing team could do more to support Digital Solutions and our portfolio companies at conferences such as ViVE” Lilly said. “Additionally, I really enjoy meeting people, making connections, and bringing new relationships, insights, and information back to UPMC Enterprises.”

They each came away from the conference with insights about the most top-of-mind topics in digital health technology, as well as leads for potential future investments and opportunities.

  • Over 30 different meetings taken by the Technology Services representatives identified 13 leads for tech services opportunities and 22 connections via networking events. The conference also gave the team the opportunity to reconnect with 11 existing customers.
  • The Digital Solutions team held 50+ company meetings and 15+ investor/partner meetings.

“Some of the brightest minds in the world are keenly aware of the challenges in the health care industry and are working tirelessly on innovative solutions to address those challenges. However, unless the key stakeholders in the ecosystems can find responsible ways to implement new technology in a timely manner and in a way that makes financial sense, we will still be talking about the same challenges for the next few decades,” Lilly said.

Mary Beth, Vice President of Market Development, was selected to share her industry expertise on the panel “Diversified Dollars” on Monday, Feb. 26. Joined by panelists Dr. Rowland Illing, Amazon Web Services (AWS); Sanjula Jain, PhD, Trilliant Health; and Ted Syverson, Eclipse Insights, the group shared their insights about today’s ever-changing world of health care economics. During the panel, Mary Beth showcased the unique UPMC Enterprises model and the impressive results of some of our portfolio companies.

The following 12 portfolio companies attended the conference as exhibitors, sponsors, speakers, and attendees: Abridge, Arrive Health, Clearsense, Elektra Health, Hashed Health, Kyruus, Moxe, Pip Care, Realyze Intelligence, Redesign Health, Smile Digital Health, and Xealth.

Dr. Shiv Rao and Dr. Tina Shah from Abridge, and Neil Patel from Redesign Health were featured in speaker panels to discuss utilizing AI in today’s health industries, combatting physician burnout, and finding the best health care platforms, respectively.

Additionally, Abridge and Realyze Intelligence shone at ViVE, each announcing significant news surrounding the event.

Just days before the conference, Abridge announced one of the largest funding rounds for generative AI in health care, raising $150M – a historic achievement for the Pittsburgh-based company in our portfolio.

Realyze Intelligence announced on stage at ViVE that they were selected to participate in the Biden administration’s CancerX Moonshot Accelerator program. This inaugural program aims to halve the U.S. cancer death rate within the next 25 years.

In just a few short days, the Enterprises team walked away with a wealth of knowledge, new industry connections, and great memories of one of the industry’s most exciting leading conferences.

“ViVE is a great opportunity to meet promising companies and connect with investor colleagues” Kathryn said. “This was my second year attending ViVE, and both times I have come away energized and excited about the future of health care technology and opportunities to transform the industry for payers and providers.”
