Prodigo Solutions, a UPMC Enterprises portfolio company that improves providers’ financial control and reduces supply chain cost, has been acquired by Global Healthcare Exchange (GHX), a company that focuses on automating supply chain processes and improving visibility into the products used in patient care.
UPMC created Prodigo in 2008, with an essential mission to drive efficiencies and significant savings throughout the health system and supply chain. With proven success at UPMC over the years, Prodigo’s technology was adopted by other providers and health systems, allowing them to lower the costs of doing business with one another by making information more accessible and data more accurate.
Prodigo’s offerings help to broaden the health care supply chain’s span of control, expanding the potential for savings across multiple categories of spend and quickly expanding continuum of care. Prodigo shapes demand by directing spending toward contractually compliant and cost-optimized product options during the procurement process. As a result, health systems achieve higher contract utilization, maximize savings associated with committed contract terms, and support sustainability objectives that are becoming essential components of modern supply chains.
The combination of Prodigo and GHX will simplify the Procure to Pay process and allow customers to increase their supply chain span of control with greater visibility. By connecting Prodigo’s front-end search and ordering capabilities with GHX’s platform and enriched data and insights, GHX customers can realize even greater value from existing GHX solutions.
“The entire Prodigo team has built a remarkable platform for operationalizing savings and reducing waste and cost within health system supply chains,” said Brent Burns, Executive Vice President, UPMC Enterprises. “We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and the role that UPMC played in incubating Prodigo and nurturing its development and we are excited for the team to embark on the next phase of their journey. We believe that the combination of Prodigo and GHX will drive expanded value to their health system customers.”
Prodigo reflects UPMC’s unparalleled ability to leverage its resources to launch innovations that benefit health care, and this acquisition brings together two mission-driven organizations with a common, patient-focused and customer-centered approach to solving health care’s toughest challenges. Prodigo will now operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of GHX.
