Healthcare Analytics Summit

  • When: 9/10/19 – 9/12/19
  • Where: Salt Lake City, UT

The 2019 Healthcare Analytics Summit is an annual event that explores the major digital transformations that are reshaping health care. At the Summit, health care executives will discuss their implementation successes and failures around machine learning, artificial intelligence, NLP, social determinants of health, and wearables. UPMC Enterprises’ VP of Analytics, Dr. Rebecca Jacobson, will be a part of the Machine Learning Marketplace presenting on “Using NLP to automate HEDIS and MIPS Quality Metric Calculation.” UPMC EVP, Rob DeMichiei, will be speaking on the panel “The Case for the Advanced Activity-Based Costing” on Wednesday, September 11th, at 2:15 PM with the Director of Implementation at Health Catalyst, Bob Alexander. UPMC Enterprises will also be represented in the Digital Innovation Showcase.

UPMC Enterprises is sponsoring the second annual INTERSECT@CMU which is organized by Carnegie Mellon University and will take place at CMU’s Tepper Quad in the Simmons Auditorium. This one-day event will focus on the rapidly changing landscape of health care, featuring panels of thought-leaders discussing emerging technologies, market systems, policy, delivery methods, and visions of the future. UPMC Enterprises EVP, Jeanne Cunicelli, will be speaking on the panel “Science or Science Fiction” which will explore the question: What will the future of medicine and health look like and how will both science and the arts help to shape that future?

Thrival Festival

  • When: 9/18/19 – 9/20/19
  • Where: Pittsburgh, PA

Thrival Festival combines two days of innovation presentations, spotlighting speakers from across the country. The 2019 event will feature discussions on robotics, health care technology, smart cities, FinTech, and corporate innovation. We will have team members on stage discussing the future of health care and technology.

Health Tech Transformation presented by UPMC Enterprises
  • When: Wednesday, September 18: 10:40AM – 12:00PM
  • Where: Carnegie Music Hall
  • Description: Over the past 10 years, health care innovators and entrepreneurs have been uprooting themselves from Silicon Valley, San Francisco, and Boston to move to Pittsburgh. The attraction to the Midwest has been fueled by the region’s ability to provide technology professionals with access to leading academic institutions, more affordable working and living environments, and connections to some of the nation’s best hospitals and startups. This discussion will feature local innovators as they share what unique advantages Pittsburgh has and how the city is leveraging them to become the next big hub for health care IT.

Corporate Innovation: Think Like an Entrepreneur
  • When: Thursday, September 19: 1:00PM – 2:15PM
  • Where: Carnegie Music Hall
  • Description: Can large corporations be innovative and nimble? The answer is yes! During this track, we will learn from people who are bringing the entrepreneurial mindset to their company and best practices for introducing an entrepreneurial attitude to your business.

P.O.W.E.R. 2019

  • When: 9/18/19
  • Where: Pittsburgh, PA

Pittsburgh’s Outstanding Women Entrepreneurs Rally (P.O.W.E.R) is an annual celebration of the contribution local women make to life sciences and health care. The sixth annual P.O.W.E.R. event will be hosted at Alloy 26 at 6:00 PM and will showcase the impact of big data in health care innovations. UPMC Enterprises’ Program Manager, Dr. Zariel Johnson, will be a featured speaker at the event.

ProductCamp Pittsburgh

  • When: 9/28/19
  • Where: Pittsburgh, PA

ProductCamp is a national organization that organizes some of the largest grassroots get-togethers of product managers. UPMC Enterprises will be sponsoring this year’s local Pittsburgh event that will take place at CMU’s Tepper Quad. The day is broken into four segments, each featuring five to six concurrent speaking/discussion sessions on product management experiences and best practices.


Pitt Challenge 2019

  • When: 10/11/19 – 10/12/19
  • Where: Pittsburgh, PA

UPMC Enterprises is sponsoring Pitt Challenge 2019, a hackathon organized by the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy and the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI). The 24-hour hackathon will feature healthcare-related problems involving EHRs, remote patient interaction, and dictation.

  • Where: Las Vegas, NV

HLTH’s mission is to be a catalyst to drive substantial reductions in health costs and dramatic increases in health quality. Attendees represent areas from across the health care continuum including payers, providers, and policy makers, as well as the disruptive startups and existing companies that provide tech-enabled services to drive efficiencies and better health outcomes. Our booth (#547) will feature our work and team members including representatives from our portfolio companies Health Catalyst, Health Fidelity, and Xealth. UPMC Treasurer and UPMC Enterprises President, Tal Heppenstall, will be part of the panel “The Strategics” on Tuesday, October 29th, at 10:10 AM, featuring industry players who have successfully set up strategic investment arms to become active participants in health innovation.


Global Entrepreneurship Week

  • When: 11/15/19 – 11/21/19
  • Where: Pittsburgh, PA

UPMC Enterprises is sponsoring the 2019 Pitt x CMU Global Entrepreneurship Week. The global event was created to inspire millions around the world to engage in entrepreneurial activity while connecting them to potential collaborators, mentors, and investors. The University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University partner each year to host events during this week including investing competitions, innovation TEDx style presentations, social innovation challenges, and a startup career fair. UPMC Enterprises will have team members involved as judges and will also have a table at the job fair.
