The Anniversary Spotlight highlights an employee celebrating a significant work anniversary at UPMC every month.

Johny Mathew began his career at UPMC in 2013 and is currently a Senior Software Architect on the Polaris team.

Originally from Maharashtra, India, Johny graduated from Savitibai Phule Pune University and held developer roles in Mumbai before accepting a Senior Application Developer role with Dynamix Technologies here in Pittsburgh. After six years with Dynamix, Johny joined PNC as an Application Architect, where he would stay for another six years.

Collectively, Johny has over 24 years of professional experience in software architecture, analysis, design, development, performance tuning, and deployment of highly modular and scalable applications in the cloud and on-premises.

With UPMC being the longest tenure of his career, we asked Johny what made UPMC unique from other employers: “It’s the people I work with daily. The vast array of knowledge and the technologies which we incorporate into our daily tasks require discipline and collaboration, which is only possible if you have the right people around you.”

When asked about what his proudest accomplishment to date has been during his time at Enterprises, he said, “I’ve been fortunate to be part of so many great teams here at Enterprises with a countless number of accomplishments I could mention.”

Although loosely related to Enterprises, Johny also cited his accomplishment of completing his master’s degree in Machine Learning and Interactive intelligence from Georgia Insititute of Technology, which he says will hopefully lead to more success for him and his team in the future.

When asked what advice he would give, particularly to his younger self, Johny said, “Remain calm.  It’s easy to get overwhelmed if you let yourself, but if you stay calm and focused, then the noise of the moment doesn’t distract you from seeing the path forward.”
