In addition to our fun facts about new staff story each month, we also feature our long-time co-workers. This month we’re featuring:
Richard James
Software Test Engineer, Senior
How did you get into the industry?
I got into QA work through my brother. I was having trouble finding work after graduating from college. My brother got me an interview at a company he was working for called Aegisoft, an algorithmic financial trading company.
How long have you been working at UPMCE?
Coming up on 6 years!
What’s changed the most since you started here?
I’d say the scope of work. When I started, a lot of teams were working on smaller internal minimal use applications and now everything seems much grander. Cloud infrastructure, national distribution, billion dollar companies — just a much bigger focus.
As technology has evolved throughout the years, what stands out to you the most?
Cloud infrastructure and test automation. When I started in the industry, our two biggest problems were poor automation tools and server deployment infrastructure. Now I can spin up an automation test suite within a day and deploy to our test site with the click of a button.
Any other fun facts?
I don’t know if I’ve got anything fun or interesting to share… EXCEPT THIS! I had twin girls on July 5th! Sydney was 3# 11oz and Charley was 3# 10oz!
