Meet the panelists: Health IT and security experts discuss ‘Building Trust in the Cloud’

Learn more about the backgrounds of the three cloud cybersecurity webinar panelists featured in ‘Building Trust in the Cloud’ from the CCM.

Cloud cybersecurity is a hot topic in health care – and it will be discussed by cloud cybersecurity webinar panelists during an online event organized by the Center for Connected Medicine.

The webinar, “Building Trust in the Cloud,” features three speakers with significant experience in health IT and information security discussing the cybersecurity implications of health care’s growing use of cloud-based software and solutions.

The audience will hear from Gus Hunt, managing director of Accenture Federal Services and the former chief technology officer of the Central Intelligence Agency; John Houston, a top information security officer at health system UPMC; and Matt Silva, the chief information security officer at GE Healthcare.

GUS HUNT

Managing Director and Cyber Lead, Accenture Federal Services

Previously, Hunt served as the chief technology officer for the Central Intelligence Agency, where he was responsible for the information technology strategic direction and future technology investment plan. He was the conceptual and motivating force behind CIA’s decision to move to the C2S cloud.

Hunt began his career in 1979 working as an aerospace engineer for Rockwell International and General Research Corporation, designing advanced manned space flight systems and satellite orbital transfer vehicles. He holds a BE and ME in Civil/Structural Engineering from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.

JOHN HOUSTON

Vice President of Privacy and Information Security, and Associate Counsel, UPMC

Houston has also been involved in a variety of startups, including both a regional health information exchange and cloud-based identity management company. He has strong legal and negotiating skills, and has negotiated many major information technology deals for UPMC. He also has been very active as a member of numerous government and industry advisory committees.

Houston has a law degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and bachelor’s degree in computer science from University of Pittsburgh.

MATT SILVA

Senior Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer, GE Healthcare

Prior to his current role, Silva served as General Counsel for the Healthcare Digital business at GE Healthcare, responsible for managing all legal aspects of that business. In addition, he had global responsibility for privacy compliance and the legal aspects of cybersecurity and was actively engaged in reshaping GE Healthcare’s approach to cybersecurity, especially in the product space.

Silva joined GE Healthcare as the Chief Privacy Officer in 2012, where he led the company’s global privacy and data protection compliance program.

Prior to joining GE Healthcare, Silva was Chief Privacy Officer at Pfizer based in the U.S. and U.K. and a privacy/technology specialist lawyer at Vodafone and Baker & McKenzie (London) advising on a diverse range of privacy, security and technology issues.

He is a graduate of Rhodes University (South Africa) and BPP Law School (UK), and currently lives in Brookfield, WI.
