This role primarily focuses on developing early-stage assets or technologies that are 2-4 years from clinical entry. The Director has overall accountability for projects and is the point of contact for key stakeholders including executive management in TS Enterprises and the innovators/Principal Investigators. Experience in a core drug development discipline (e.g. toxicology, non-clinical or clinical pharmacology, business development, etc.), leading project teams in a research or translational function, and intelligence gathering/synthesis to evaluate business opportunities are core competencies.
Under the general direction of management, this Senior position requires a high degree of experienced technical attributes, analytical capabilities, ability to perform tasks such as: defining project plans, implementing and/or maintaining Cloud environments, and providing services to meet client and business needs within budget and targeted deadlines.
At UPMC Enterprises, Translational Sciences, the Manager will work closely with the Director/VP in the respective strategic area to evaluate, perform diligence and, when necessary, develop a business-case for project proposals to support investment decision-making. For funded proposals, they will work with both internal and external team members to generate detailed project plans, timelines and budgets to maximize the probability of success in translating scientific discoveries into a commercial product for approval, licensing or acquisition. When the proposal necessitates the formation of a new company, this individual will also be responsible for managing the business-related startup activities until the company is fully operational at which time, they will transition the external responsibilities.
