UPMC Enterprises rowing team nabs medals in league competition

The recently formed UPMC Enterprises rowing team took home Silver and Bronze medals in two events at a summer rowing league race organized by the Three Rivers Rowing Association.

The team, which formed in May and held nine weekly practices before the race, fielded two 8-person boats in the competition on July 21.

The team’s novice mixed boat finished in second place at 3:41.07, and was narrowly beaten by an established crew finishing at 3:40.66.

  • Novice Mixed Rowers: Matthew Forsyth, Brian Hall, Mike Petrasek, Dean Zaslow, Varsha Raj, Claudia Mena, Robin Guter, and Pam Lougheed.
  • A special shout-out goes to Claudia Mena who raced with just 2 practices on the water under her belt!

The team’s novice men’s boat won bronze, finishing at 3:28.66, behind a team from Uber and an established private crew.

  • Novice Men’s Rowers: Matthew Forsyth, Brian Hall, Mike Petrasek, Dean Zaslow, Keith Callenberg, Chris Venturini, Gary Boyko, Ed Wianko.

The competition capped the first session of the summer rowing league. The team plans to compete in the second session, which runs July 23 to Sept. 27. Watch for updates about how the team does in the next race.
