Kate Grandfield

Data Integration Analyst, Technology Services

Q: Are you a Pittsburgh local, or did you grow up elsewhere?

A: I am not a Pittsburgh local – in fact, I only moved here just under a year ago. I grew up in Virginia, but I’ve lived all over the country (and abroad). So far, I’ve absolutely loved the community I’ve found here.

Q: Do you have any kids? Any pets?

A: I have no children but I have one cat and one dog. The cat is a little tabby named Lily, and the dog is a cardigan corgi named Duo.

Q: Do you have an unusual talent or hobby?

A: I think it is becoming increasingly more usual, but I’m a big fan of pinball, which seems to amuse and sometimes baffle my friends. My partner and I own three pinball machines of our own: Avengers, Halloween, and Godzilla.

Nicholas Marshman

Software Engineer – Full Stack, Technology Services

Q: How did you get into the industry?

A: My high school had a computer science magnet program which I enrolled in. I was very good at it but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to major in it when I went to college. However, after a single semester as a biology major – I realized I was much more fit in the computer science scene and swapped back! I had a couple of internships (one for the city of Pittsburgh and one for Highmark HMHS) before I had my first full-time job, which was at PNC Bank. I worked on the API Center of Excellence team, creating tools for other developers within the bank to use to assist in swagger and project creation, deployment, compliance, and many other things. I worked there for nearly four years until I ultimately decided to swap, and here I am!

Q: Do you have any kids? Any pets?

A: No kids, but I do have an 18-year-old calico cat named Boomer (named after a character from Battlestar Galactica). She’s been with me since she was born, and I love her to death.

Q: What’s your favorite quote from a movie or TV series?

A: While definitely a result of recency bias, I think the quote “Irony is a blade that cuts he who wields it most especially” was a funny quote in context and a good quote out of context, from the newly released Dungeons and Dragons movie. I also wanted to quote this movie because it highlights my nerd levels a bit!

Jo Ann McLaughlin-Klemencic

Operations Coordinator

Q: Are you a Pittsburgh local, or did you grow up elsewhere?

A: Born and raised in Pittsburgh. Moved away through college and graduate school and came back to get married and settle in my hometown.

Q: Where in the universe would you like to visit someday?

A: I want to take our daughters on a heritage tour of Ireland for my family and Slovenia for my husband’s family.

Q: What’s in your perfect meal?

A: Either a large, hearty salad or Mexican food.
