Upcoming CCM panel discussion features experts from UPMC, Vanderbilt, NCQA, and Astrata on the future of artificial intelligence in health care

The Center for Connected Medicine (CCM) will host an expert panel discussion online to address the future of AI in delivering greater value in health care.

The discussion, “The Intersection of Value and AI: Where Machines Can Make a Difference,” features leaders from UPMC Enterprises and Astrata, a recently formed UPMC portfolio company. It will be held 3-4 p.m. ET, Thursday, May 13, 2021.

The panel discussion builds on the CCM’s Top of Mind research published in 2020, which found that half of the respondents were using AI in response to COVID-19 and 44% were increasing investment and focus on AI because of the pandemic. Speakers will address where AI is showing promise and what challenges need to be overcome to successfully deploy the technology in health care.

The discussion also will ask how machine learning (ML) and natural language processing (NLP) can accelerate the shift to value by measuring more of what matters.

The expert speakers:

  • Pamela Peele, PhD, Chief Analytics Officer, UPMC Health Plan and UPMC Enterprises (Moderator).
  • Rebecca Jacobson, MD, President of Astrata.
  • Brad Ryan, MD, Chief Product Officer, NCQA.
  • Colin Walsh, MD, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Informatics, Medicine, and Psychiatry, Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
