The Anniversary Spotlight highlights an employee celebrating a significant work anniversary at UPMC every month.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Chris is no stranger to the 412! After growing up in Munhall, PA, he attended Robert Morris University where he received his BSBA in Management Information Systems (MIS). During his time there, he took on multiple leadership roles and served as President of Kappa Delta Rho Fraternity and Captain of the club volleyball team.
Following his time at Robert Morris, he attended graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh to receive a MS in Healthcare Management.
Embarking on his journey within the health care industry, Chris provided PC Support in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital for eight years. Continuing advancement in his field, Chris also spent time at ITXM and medCPU. Ultimately, he found his way to UPMC Enterprises and has since held various roles regarding product management, client services, and DSO – cloud team creation.
Currently serving as the Senior Director of Engineering Services and MyUPMC Technical Operations at UPMC Enterprises, Chris certainly has a lot on his plate.
Chris’s primary responsibilities include the oversight and direction of cloud infrastructure and offerings, oversight of software implementations, and product releases to assure optimal system performance and reliability.
Chris also oversees operational procedures to ensure implementations meet the requirements around schedule, reliability, functionality, security, and cost. He is posed with resolving conflicts and removing roadblocks that impact productivity while building senior-level relationships with project sponsors/client stakeholders.
When asked about his favorite thing about working at UPMC Enterprises, Chris offered one key word: people.
“UPMC Enterprises has the greatest combination of intelligence, hard work, humility, and helpfulness in employees,” said Chris.
Over the past 11 years, Chris has undoubtedly had a great impact here at UPMC Enterprises. Some of his proudest accomplishments during his time here include building the initial cloud team, helping MyUPMC go live completely remote, and obtaining HITRUST certification of MyUPMC.
Looking ahead to 2024, Chris is most excited about looking to make MyUPMC a true on-demand infrastructure cost-wise while presenting the same user experience to patients.
Outside of work, you can find Chris spending time with his wife and children, golfing, or working out. His current side hustle involves his running his property management business, COEN, which he started in 2015.
“Growing my side business as something to hand off to my kids one day, as well as my love looking for properties (house, land, etc.) for others looking to pursue a first house or business, is truly a passion of mine.”
UPMC Enterprises is certainly fortunate to have Chris’s guidance and leadership across the MyUPMC team.
When asked about advice he would give to prospective UPMCE employees, Chris’ advice is to learn as much as you can from your team and managers. “Don’t be afraid to ask questions and keep the curiosity going by embarking on your own exploration of technology and sharing with the greater teams!”
