How Scientific Innovation is Advancing Healthcare in Pittsburgh and the World

UPMC Enterprises is partnering with the Carnegie Mellon University Tepper School of Business to host an alumni event. The event will feature UPMC Enterprises’ Tal Heppenstall and Jeanne Cunicelli as well as other Tepper School of Business investment-focused alumni as they discuss the steps necessary to successfully develop, fund, and bring to market innovative health care products and services.

UPMC Enterprises is sponsoring a hackathon focused on pediatric health care. The event will bring together students from the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, and other nearby institutions to tackle health care pain points in the field of pediatrics. The hackathon is organized by the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation.

Pittsburgh’s Outstanding Women Entrepreneurs Rally (P.O.W.E.R) is an annual celebration of the contribution local women make to life sciences and healthcare. The fifth annual P.O.W.E.R. event, The P.O.W.E.R. of Immunotherapy, will showcase an emerging trend in healthcare – immunotherapy. UPMC Enterprises’ Mariel Shlomchik will join four other Pittsburgh scientists to share how immunotherapies are shaping the fields of cancer and transplantation.


Holding Machines Accountable: Confronting the Unintended Consequences of Machine Learning

UPMC Enterprises is hosting a Pittsburgh Entrepreneurs Forum panel discussion on machine learning. The panel members, including UPMC Enterprises’ Keith Callenberg, will dive into the ethics of machine learning, including a discussion around biases and the best practices that can be implemented to prevent models and algorithms from going awry.
